| Edamame Lowers Cholesterol! |
 |
For those of us watching our cholesterol, every
meal can make a difference. Research backs this up.
A study, published this spring, showed that a diet
with plenty of soy products, such as tofu and
edamame, nuts and fiber-rich foods like oatmeal
lowered participants' cholesterol levels. The study,
published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,
showed a 20 percent or more decrease in cholesterol
levels in participants in one year. The results are
similar to prescription cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Here's a recipe for a tasty dip with a kick!
What a great way to add heart-healthy soy to your
diet.
Edamame Spread
2 cups frozen shelled edamame
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon wasabi paste (or more to taste)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup water (reserved from boiling pot)
Veggies and rice crackers for dipping
In a medium sauce pan of boiling salted water, cook
the edamame and garlic until tender, about five
minutes.
In a food processor, puree' edamame, garlic, wasabi
paste, soy sauce, lemon juice. Add water slowly
until very smooth.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to one day
to merge the flavors. Serve with veggies and rice
crackers.

Sara Bray and daughter, Noelle Coon
These tough yoga girls are up for any challenge!
They took our Get Fit Challenge in May and attended
15 classes in one month. Their hard work paid off
and they each received a free month of classes and
a much stronger yoga practice!
Sara, a long time resident of Marble Falls, moved
back from New Mexico last year and has been a
faithful attendee of our Flow classes ever since. She
loves to come into class and get lost in her yoga
zone.
Noelle is currently a full time student attending
Southwestern University in Georgetown. She got
hooked on Flow last summer and now catches a class
whenever she's home. These days you'll also spot her
in our Hatha yoga classes.
You go girls!
Ask Patti
"How do you know which acupuncture points to
treat for which condition?
Since the primary treatment goal is to unblock Qi and
also achieve its equilibrium within and between the
meridians, so the body can heal itself, the crux of
the matter is this: where to access and stimulate the
meridians in relation to a given health problem?
Repeated experience in similar cases provides the
acupuncturist with many tried and proven formulas.
In addition, traditional formulas fitting each diagnosis
are readily available in charts and books--formulas
which have worked through the ages for millions of
sick men, women, and children. Those formulas
confirm which acupoints to treat.
Please email me any questions you may have
about acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
