JUNE 12th-18th
Did you know most men take better care of their car
than they do their own body?
They'll spend hours cleaning, polishing, and changing
the fluids on their car, but won't spend a minute
maintaining their body. Well don't be one of those
guys! Not only is it risky to avoid regular check-ups
on your car, it's even more of a risk to skip the
regular maintenance on your body. Luckily, June is
Men's Health Month and we're here to remind you
that it's time to make sure all systems are a go!
When's the last time you gave any thought to your
nutrition, flexibility, mental clarity or overall wellness?
Now's the time! Jump start your health by attending
our workshop on Yoga, Nutrition, Diet & Lifestyle.
Find out just what kind of fuel your body desires and
get an introduction to a yoga practice that could
change your life.
Lastly, if you want to keep your warranty
valid, it's always a good idea to have your scheduled
check-ups. Here's a
current list of recommended check-
ups and screenings by age group. Review it and
schedule an appointment with your health care
provider today.
Gentlemen, start your engines!

| Yoga - It's Not Just For Chicks |
 |
What do Eddie George, Barry Zito, Dan
Marino, and
David Duval all have in common? Well,
clearly
they're
all guys, but they're also all star athletes, top
performers in their sport, as well
as faithful Yogis. They're also just a few of the
3.5
million men now practicing yoga in the United
States.
Each of these guys started yoga for different
reasons, injury recovery, increased flexibility, and
mental focus, to name a few, but all have grown
devoted to yoga after realizing it's a kick-butt
workout with amazing results! Any misconceptions
folks have about yoga being easy are
generally blown out of the water after the first class.
Paul Hewitt, the men's basketball
coach at
Georgia Tech, who incorporated yoga into his team's
routine, said his guys learned quickly, "This is not
some passive, sit around-and-contemplate kind of
thing. It really stretches my guys to their limits."
The great thing is, anyone can do yoga. If
you're looking for something super challenging, yoga's
it! If you're looking for gentle stretching and
lengthening of the muscles, yoga's it! If you want to
strengthen your core abdominal muscles, yoga's it!
"Yoga also really helped me with my balance, my
abdominal strength and overall strength. It's the
strength that you get from holding a pose. Not
weight-lifting strength, but real functional body
strength," says Amani Toomer, wide receiver
for the
New York Giants.
Men of all walks of life are doing yoga these days.
That's because the benefits of yoga apply whether
you're an athlete, a diesel mechanic or a
stockbroker. Enhanced performance, mental clarity
and increased endurance are just a few of the
reasons you should take up yoga. So stop stalling
and get your rear to a class. Even if you are the only
guy there, is that such a bad thing?

Donald Ritter, Harry Hart, and John Kemper
are just a few of our devoted male yogis at
Sana Vida. They always arrive at their favorite 5:30
pm class with an open mind and a willing heart.
These guys all benefit from a regular yoga practice
and love the life changes they've experienced since
beginning yoga.
They all agreed that their regular practice has helped
them cope with the demands and stresses that life
has dealt them. Yoga also helps to redirect their
focus to healthier life choices. And no, yoga is
not just for chicks!
Ask Patti
"How does acupuncture complement Western
Medicine?
Depending on your diagnosis, acupuncture may be
the primary treatment recommended by your
physician or it may be used in conjunction with other
modalities. Allopathic, pharmaceutical and surgical
interventions, as well as, numerous other medical
modalities are often particularly complemented by the
effects of acupuncture.
For example, acupuncture is often used as oncology
support for those going through chemo and
radiation. The acupuncture relieves nausea,
increases appetite, reduces pain and can boost the
white blood cell count within hours. This is
sometimes a matter of life or death if a patient
cannot receive their next chemo treatment due to
too low white blood cells.
Acupuncture adapts itself to the changing
requirements of the patient, making it an excellent
partner for Western treatments.
Please email me any questions you may have
about acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
