    Eating Breakfast Improves Memory
    Apples

Memory may be improved among elderly persons who eat breakfast, according to recent research highlighted by the Public Information Committee of the American Society for Nutritional Services and the American Society for Clinical Nutrition.

22 men and women, ages 61 to 79 participated in the study. Following an overnight fast, the participants were given either pure protein, pure fat, or pure carbohydrate beverages.

Researchers noted improved performance on memory tests just 15 minutes after the protein drinks were ingested, as compared with placebo beverages containing no energy.

"We've known for a long time that glucose can have positive effects on memory in the elderly, but our findings are novel in that fat and protein were also shown to have beneficial effects on memory," said Randall Kaplan, lead author of the study. "In contrast to previous studies, these results indicate that blood sugar does not have to increase for memory to be enhanced."

Previous studies have had similar outcomes, but this is the first study to show that memory may be enhanced by eating any type of breakfast, regardless of whether it was high in protein, fat, or carbohydrates.

Researchers believe that the best approach to preserving memory over the long-term is to exercise regularly, maintain a healthy body weight, and eat a diet low in saturated fat.

    Revive Tired-Looking Eyes
    Eyes

Tired eyes? Allergies got you puffy?
You need the Eye Surrender Treatment!

The eye contour is the most delicate skin area of the face. Characterized by low blood and lymphatic circulation, this skin is often dehydrated. This area is also 10 times more reactive than facial skin and is the first to show signs of aging.

The Eye Surrender Treatment is highly moisturizing and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and "crow’s feet" while decongesting the eye area. You'll experience increased circulation and reduced inflammation, leaving eyes less puffy, smoother and tighter.

Call Brenda today at 512-755-3906 to schedule your Eye Surrender Treatment. $40 for Treatment alone, or only $25 as an add-on to a facial.

"What brought acupuncture to the United States?"

In the early 1970's American newspaper reporters covering President Richard Nixon's visit to China wrote about a "miraculous" healing art virtually unknown in the United States. The method immediately caught the American imagination, and suddenly a new word was on millions of American lips: acupuncture.

According to news reports, instead of using chemical anesthetics, Chinese acupuncturists were able to block pain of surgery by inserting needles into the patient at specific points. Even more astonishing, it was said that acupuncture relieved a wide variety of human ills, and had worked reliably for people through thousands of years. That publicity brought acupuncture into great demand by many Americans, some of them seeking a last resort remedy for serious afflictions. It took several years for acupuncture colleges to establish themselves in the US and train American acupuncturists. It is estimated that 15 million persons each year try acupuncture for the first time and more would avail themselves of this ancient healing method if only they knew more about it.
