| Just Be |
 |
Do you wonder if dogs get bored? My little
dog sits by the window, presumably looking
out for intruders of the birdseed-stealing
variety (squirrels) and of the eating-my-
pansies variety (deer). Mainly, I think,
she’s just watching the grass grow, listening
to the wind blow, and smelling some amazing
scents beyond my capacity to smell. My
husband doesn’t think she’s bored at all, he
tells me that she’s just being in the
moment.
I suppose we could take a few lessons from
our furry friends and spend some time just
being in the moment ourselves. After all, we
are human beings, not human doings. But,
what does being really mean to us?
Mahatma Gandhi wrote “Be the change
you wish
to see in the world.” I find that to be a
truly wondrous concept. How about these as
well?”
Be the love you wish to see in the
world.
Be the joy you wish to see in the world.
Be the peace you wish to see in the
world.
Be the friend you wish to see in the
world.
Be the light you wish to see in the
world.
Be the patience you wish to see in the
world.
Be the kindness you wish to see in the
world.
Be the integrity you wish to see in the
world.
If we all plant little seeds of change every
day, we’ll be able to be all that we can be. What seed
do you choose to plant?

1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper

and the pecan halves. Toss to combine, and
serve.
Per serving: 180 calories; 16.4 fat grams; 2.7 protein
grams; 8.4 carbohydrate grams.
IN SEASON: STRAWBERRIES
Did you know?...
*Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and
fiber. One cup of strawberries supplies more vitamin
C than a whole orange!
*Strawberries contain respectable amounts of folate
(a heart-healthy B vitamin) and potassium.
*Strawberries are a primary source of ellagic acid, a
phytochemical that fights carcinogens.
"Picking" strawberries...
For the ultimate strawberry flavor, buy strawberries in
season locally. Choose berries that are plump,
colorful, and sweetly fragrant. The leafy caps should
look fresh and green.
Preparation
Rinse berries in cold water, then hull them. If you hull
the berries before rinsing, they will absorb excess
water. When hulling strawberries, remove the leafy
cap and the white core using a paring knife or berry
huller.

What our students are saying... |
|
|

Becky Lane & Kathy Williams
"We appreciate the mind-body-spiritual aspects of
yoga. This has helped us sustain a regular practice
for over 5 years now. It is amazing how all movement
and posture can be experienced in terms of balancing
those aspects. It's not about physically pushing
oneself to accomplish athletic feats; however, both of
us are over sixty and are able to do things like
headstands and handstands now that we never did in
our youth."
"We started going to class with our neighbors and
found that
having a group to practice with, makes a big
difference. We've also been fortunate enough to have
an outstanding teacher who has supported and
inspired us in our practice and growth. It's fun to
experience the many changes this practice has
provided. We both wish we had started in our
twenties but it's great to know it's never too late to start
a yoga practice."
Kathy and Becky's consistency and dedication
to their yoga practice are an inspiration to us at Sana
Vida. They can usually be found at the morning Hatha
2/3 or Vinyasa 1/2 classes.
Ask Patti
Can acupuncture help seniors?
With much more frequency, seniors are beginning to
depend on acupuncture for their health care needs.
Many are seeking an alternative method for chronic
conditions, while others comment that they have
already tried everything else for their
problems.
Some seniors have residual problems from long-
forgotten accidents or other traumas which stayed
more or less in the background for years, only to flare
up unexpectedly in the form of pain, soreness, and
reduced mobility. When that happens, some seniors
tend to give up, believing that they are getting too old
or that they just have to learn to live with the
condition.
However, sometimes it is too early for that response.
In many situations, it is not too late for acupuncture to
help. Countless seniors have discovered that
acupuncture care often helps them feel younger
which allows them to enjoy life.
