Heart-Healthy Benefits of Salmon
Sockeye Salmon has the highest level of heart-
healthy Omega 3 oils. Omega 3 oils produce a series
of eicosanoids that have been shown to decrease
the
risk for heart disease, inflammatory processes and
certain cancers. Omega 3's provide additional heart-
healthy benefits by:
-Decreasing blood lipids (cholesterol, LDL's, and
triglycerides)
-Decreasing blood clotting factors
-Increasing beneficial relaxation in larger arteries and
blood vessels
-Decreasing inflammatory processes in blood vessels
Omega 3 oils have also been linked to improvements
in or prevention of certain kinds of cancer, ulcerative
colitis, psoriasis, arthritis, asthma, certain kinds of
mental illness, depression and lupus.
Salmon is also an excellent source of high-quality
protein which is essential for bodily functions, such
as building and repairing muscle, blood, and skin. It's
also full of essential vitamins and minerals.
Many modern diets aren't high enough in omega 3 oils
to realize optimum health benefits. The good news is,
simply including seafood in the diet two to four times
a week, most people can improve their health and
just one serving of Alaska Salmon can lower your
cholesterol and risk of heart disease.

May is National Physical Fitness
Month
Have you ever committed to making yourself the
healthier, happier person you want to be? In honor
of the 50th Anniversary of the President's Council on
Physical Fitness and Sports, we're asking you to
make that commitment.
Here are a few reasons why you
should:
*Moderate daily physical activity can reduce
substantially the risk of developing or dying from
cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain
cancers, such as colon cancer.
*Daily physical activity helps to lower blood pressure
and cholesterol, helps prevent or retard osteoporosis,
and helps reduce obesity, symptoms of anxiety and
depression, and symptoms of arthritis.
*Adults 18 and older need 30 minutes of physical
activity on five or more days a week to be healthy;
children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day
for their health.
*37% of adults report they are not physically active.
Only 3 in 10 adults get the recommended amount of
physical activity.
Here are a few simple steps to make it
happen:
*Sign a contract with yourself.
We've provided an easy, fill-in-the-blanks form for
you to use.
*Drop by and try one of our many Yoga, Flow or Qi
Gong classes. The first class is on us!
*Register for a workshop. This is a great way to try
something new or dig a little deeper into a current
practice.
Now go make that commitment. You're
worth it!
Ask Patti
Can acupuncture help me with my allergies?
Absolutely! Allergies are your body's way of over-
reacting. Spring and Summer are particularly tough
times for allergy sufferers due to all the wind-born
tree, grass and weed pollens. The sneezing, running
nose and itchy eyes can be unbearable!
Chinese medicine can help bring relief of symptoms,
correct imbalances of the immune system, prevent
the occurrence of infection, and allow healing of
tissues of the sinuses.
It offers allergy
sufferers a
way to strengthen their bodies and significantly
reduce their symptoms, without unpleasant side
effects. You do not have to spend another season
living with allergies!
Please email me any questions you may have
about acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
