EXPANSION UPDATE
If you haven't heard...Sana Vida will be moving into a
much larger building next year. We will not be
moving far, just next door. You may have noticed
some things starting to get cleaned up at the corner
of Avenue F and 1431.Well, that progress is for us!
We are very excited, however, we have a lot of work
ahead.
If all goes as currently planned,
we will double our treatment rooms from 4 to 8;
increase the studio by 1,000 square feet, and add a
retail market with a unique tea and elixir bar.
I will try to update you on the progress
as we know more. Currently, we are looking to move
between April and May, but you never know.
SANA VIDA WILL BE AT THE HOLISTIC HEALTH
FAIR September 23; 9 am to 4
pm Lakeside Pavilion, Marble Falls
We will have a large booth with a lot of information,
chair massages, digital meridian graphs, acupuncture
demonstrations, and free classes through out the
day.
come visit us and get a free gift.

Yoga doesn’t have to end when we step off our yoga
mats and walk out the studio door. We can bring
yogic principles into our family's everyday
life.
We have often heard our teachers telling us to set
an intention for that day’s yoga practice. This can
be done each morning as we wake up and can be as
simple as setting our intention to having a peaceful
day.
As you wake your children up, perhaps with
a hug or backrub,
have them wiggle their hands and toes, then their
wrists and ankles, then big stretches to shake off
sleep. Share your intention for
the day with them and, if they are old enough, ask
them to set an intention for their day.
As they get older, discuss how their morning’s
intention was manifested throughout their day.
It is very important for our children to see us
demonstrate coping skills and to see how we handle
stress. Try to be mindful of your emotions
throughout the day. Then, when you find yourself in
a stressful situation, focus on your breathing.
As you collect your thoughts, be mindful of what is
causing the frustration or
stressful situation. No, we don’t always have the
time (or the inclination) to sit and breathe.
However, it is yogic to recognize that at any moment
you can stop
yourself and focus on your breath. Children need to
know that their parents do experience stress
and that we have many different ways of coping; but,
that our most successful reaction to stress can be
very simple--just breathe until you can
better handle the situation. Similarly, when your
child starts to “get off balance”, have them go sit and
breathe. Such centering tactics are a great way to
demonstrate yogic principles to your
children.
As we juggle doing our yoga and the dishes with
reasonable regularity, we recognize that, somewhere
along our spiritual paths, parenting has become our
practice. The same mindfulness that goes into
preparing the body for yoga and meditation can be
brought to bear when cooking dinner, tucking in bed
sheets, or bathing our children. If, when you’re
folding clothes, you are really present for the
task, you are creating harmony and a sense of order
in your home. There is a huge difference in the
emotional life of your family if you can find your
underwear in the morning. When we are at home, our
children do not care if we can do 10 backbends or
headstands. They care that we are present both
physically and emotionally to create a safe place
where their needs get met. Those needs include
enjoying a parent who is calm and loving. Daily life is
a mixture of the
simple (laundry) and the sublime (bedtime kisses and
songs), and the practice of yoga can help with
both.

| Healthy Ideas for Lunchboxes |
 |
Often, children can be incredibly picky eaters.
Sometimes the most
stressful part of a parent's day can be making a meal
that is not only healthy, but that the child will eat
without complaint. With the prevalence of such
televisions programs as "Honey, We're Killing Our
Kids", parents are beginning to recognize how
necessary it is for their children to eat healthy,
well-balanced meals.
- A "real" drink - water, milk, or 100% juice
- Fiber - fruit or individual serving of apple sauce
and whole grain breads or crackers
- Vegetables- edemame (soybeans in the shell) kids
love shooting the beans from the shell into their
mouth; baby carrots are always a favorite
- Dips-natural nut butters, low-fat Ranch, or a
bean dip like humus.
- Sweet surprise-tiny piece of dark chocolate or
Coconut Balls (see recipe below)
Kids like desserts. Try the Coconut Balls (recipe
below) or the Carob Bars (see our August
Newsletter) for a sweet, albeit healthy, treat.
Quick, Uncooked Coconut Ball
Candy
1 cup liquid honey
1/2 cup unsweetened, grated coconut
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Blend ingredients and roll into balls using buttered
hands (to prevent mixture from sticking to hands).
Balls may rolled into additional chopped nuts, if
desired.

Susan Stivers is proof that people of all shapes can
benefit from yoga. This photo was taken about 3
days before she delivered little baby Hope. Susan is
a regular around Sana Vida. You will find her several
times a week in our Flow class (usually very close to
the fan!) and she also taught Pilates Mat for us.
Susan feels she has benefited the most from a
regular yoga practice in the areas of stress reduction
and toning. Oh, and by the way, little Hope
Elizabeth Stivers was brought quickly into this world
in a mere 4 hours and reluctantly "natural." Way to
go Susan! (It must have been all the Hindi squats!)
Ask Patti
What happens if the flow of qi becomes blocked
in my body?
Qi (pronounced "chi",) the energy or lifeforce of the
body, is meant to
flow freely throughout the meridian network, carrying
balanced vital force to all of the body's parts,
organs, and systems. This encourages them to
function together in a natural, harmonious way,
leading to sound health. However, any sustained
blockage or other disruption of a balanced flow or
distribution of qi may bring on pain, a weakened
immune system, and/or ill health.
It is important to realize that while a blockage in one
organ or part of the body can cause diminished qi,
it can cause excessive buildup of qi in another
area. Visualize a meridian carrying qi as a freeway
carrying cars. We know what happens when one or
more lanes become blocked on a freeway. It is a
similar idea on a meridian. A blockage may cause a
deficiency of qi beyond the blockage and a buildup
of qi behind the blockage, which may mean
diminished activity of some organs and accelerated
activity of others. Either way, qi is unbalanced,
and, therefore, its flow must be normalized through
an acupunturist's skilled and expert care.
